Sun-Kissed Memories: Celebrating Filipino Camaraderie at the Sun Kissed Lola & Silent Sanctuary Concert

Updated: Nov 13, 2024

Legacy Migration and Study Direction calls Melbourne home, a city that sometimes enjoys a playful rivalry with Sydney. Naturally, as Melburnians, we’re a bit biased in calling ours the best city in Australia (sorry, Sydney friends!). But in truth, we don’t often get the chance to connect with our fellow Filipinos in Sydney. So, when Zac Alvis’ Zion Productions brought Sun Kissed Lola and Silent Sanctuary to Australia, we knew it was a moment we couldn’t miss. These OPM icons have captured hearts not only in the Philippines but worldwide. And here at Legacy, they’re on repeat in our playlists — Sun Kissed Lola's tunes for any road trip and Silent Sanctuary’s stirring string sections that never fail to make us feel at home.

Arriving in Sydney, we were thrilled not only to experience the city but also to share this night with Filipino students, families, and friends who gathered from all corners of Australia. This wasn’t just a concert; it was a joyful gathering, a homecoming, and a celebration of Filipino spirit and community.

From the start, you could feel the energy — the warm greetings, laughter in Tagalog and English, and a sense of togetherness that felt just like home. Sure, as sponsors, we had a photo op with the bands, but really, we were here as fans, ready to sing along with everyone else who knew each song by heart. When Sun Kissed Lola took the stage, the crowd’s joy was contagious. The music brought everyone closer, turning the distance between Australia and the Philippines into a momentary memory.

Throughout the night, we watched students and young Filipinos belt out every lyric, cheering like they were right back in Manila. Filipino food stalls filled the venue with familiar aromas, adding to the sense of home. It was truly moving to see young Filipinos coming together, sharing a night of music and connection that reminded us all of the strength in our culture and the ties that bind us no matter where we are.

For our Managing Director, Luanne, and myself, it was especially meaningful to be there with our daughter, sharing in the heart of what it means to be Filipino. For her, it was a glimpse into the resilience, joy, and warmth that defines our culture — a feeling of unity even among strangers. This night wasn’t only about music; it was a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do at Legacy Migration.

At Legacy, we hold close the values that connect with experiences like this: trust, support, and the belief in creating spaces where Filipinos can feel they belong. Just as this concert brought us together, we’re here to help our fellow Filipinos build lives in Australia, bridging distances and creating communities where everyone can thrive.

To all those Filipinos thinking about a new journey in Australia, we welcome you to this vibrant, supportive family. Come study, work, and build your dreams here, knowing you’ll always have a place to call home. Together, we can create new memories, support each other, and build legacies that last. Australia awaits you, and so does your Filipino family.
