If you're preparing to apply for a skilled visa in Australia, a key update is coming soon. Starting 1 July 2025, the Australian Government will increase income thresholds for several employer-sponsored visa streams.
This change, tied to national wage growth, is part of the country’s ongoing commitment to improve integrity in the skilled migration program and ensure fair wages for overseas workers.
What’s Changing from 1 July 2025?
As announced by the Department of Home Affairs, the following income thresholds will increase by 4.6%, aligned with the annual Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE):
Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT)
From: AUD 73,150
To: AUD 76,515
Applies to:
Subclass 482 (Skills in Demand – Core Skills stream)
Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme)
Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT)
From: AUD 135,000
To: AUD 141,210
Applies to:
Subclass 482 (Skills in Demand – Specialist Skills stream)
Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT)
From: AUD 73,150
To: AUD 76,515
Applies to:
Subclass 494 (Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional)
Subclass 187 (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme)
Starting 1 July, new nomination applications must meet whichever is higher: the new income threshold or the Annual Market Salary Rate (AMSR) for the nominated occupation.
Who Will Be Affected?
This increase will apply to new nominations lodged on or after 1 July 2025. It does not apply to:
Existing visa holders
Nominations submitted before 1 July 2025

If you are an employer nominating an overseas worker or a skilled applicant working toward Australian residency, it’s crucial to:
Review your salary offer to ensure it aligns with updated thresholds
